Lover

Beautiful things have a beautiful momentum all of their own - Nic Briand and Susan Chong know this - in fact they live and breathe it. Together in life as in work, the duo have seen their label, Lover, go fro a humble stall at the Bondi Markets to a critically acclaimed 10 year anniversary runway show at the Sydney Opera House in 2011.

Lover is the point of synthesis for everything Briand and Chong watch, read, hear, think and do. From Pre-Raphelites to "The Slits" to Charlotte Rampling, they introduce their inspirations through an ongoing conversation. Based around the clothing, they communicate to the enduring list of women who have become seduced by the brand.

Self described as "same album, different songs", they have mixed their individual tastes, one for romantic and ethereal the other for loud and irreverent to create an influential label that has remained true to its signature style and ideals from day one.

Contrast and the unexpected are elemental to the Lover aesthetic. Black lace comes up against white silk and red denim. Soft silhouettes meet sharp tailored shoulders. Angelic women take to the catwalk under a haze of dirty guitar feedback. It's a paradox that falls beautifully and wears well.

Lover is an ever-changing monument to defiant youth, natural wisdom and feminine charm which has gained cult like status. Just ask US & UK Vogue, Vice magazine, Style.com, Lula, WWD, Alexa Chung, Kirsten Dunst, Joanna Newsom or any member of their worldwide following known as 'The Black Rose Army' - because they are among the devoted.
